     Karin Assmann is a full-time journalist for Der Speigel in Washington D.C. and a PhD. candidate at the University of Maryland. She spoke about her experience in journalism, dating back to before the age of digital audio recorders, and the socio-technical system that surrounds these technologies, especially within her professional field. The interview was video recorded and lasted about 35 minutes. The footage and her personal quotes were used in our “Interview With an Expert” segment and in other various locations on the site.

     This page provides details in audio fundamentals. It helped us to understand the concept of sample rates and bit depth, and how they can affect the quality of audio.

     The Engineering and Technology Wiki website has an in depth page dedicated to the history of the audio recorder. More relevant to the Sony ICD-UX560 digital voice recorder, this website historically maps out Sony’s powerful influence in the digital audio industry, as well as their start towards creating a digital audio market.

     The “2017 Smartphone Comparison Guide” talks about features of the most used smartphones in the year 2017. The comparison between size, weight, material, battery capacity and fast charging provided in this gave us detailed data on smartphones. We used the data in the poster when we compared Sony ICE-UX560 with smartphones.

This Q&A page gave us information on the resolution of Voice Memo of iPhone. We got the page in the initial stage of the project to figure out the difference between iPhone recording apps and Sony audio recorders. The result was apparent: the Sony recorder has more recording settings to choose from, while the iPhone can only record sound with one default setting.

     Matthias (Matt) Roeckl is a freelance journalist and multimedia producer in New York City. He spoke about his use of digital audio recording technology in his journalistic work, and how it has evolved over the years. He also described the architectural and algorithmic processes that go into capturing quality audio on a device. His quotes and insight were used in multiple sections across the website.

     Straight from the source itself, Sony offers an online help guide specifically for the Sony ICD-UX560 with in depth sub-tabs that delve into detailed program functionalities such as recording, editing, and playback. Visuals and diagrams of this digital voice recorder (and its screen) are heavily incorporated within every part of this help guide to ensure clarity and specificity when going over the instructions of a set of tasks or a particular operation.

Additionally, this page offers information not included in the detailed “full specs” page, such as material information (e.g. environmentally friendly), product dimensions, and photographs of the product in every angle.

This fact sheet was used when describing the architecture and algorithm of this Sony digital audio recorder on the website.

     The concept of detention and how third detention (external memory) could affect people’s concept of the world. We used this page while developing our socio-technical system for the digital audio recorder

     We checked this wiki page about high-fidelity to see whether the audio from Sony Digital Audio Recorder can reach lossless hi-fi quality. From the user menu we learned the highest quality of audio from Sony, which can be defined as hi-fi. This information was also used when juxtaposing digital audio recorders and smartphones.

     We used the product page and engineering drawing from Sony Help Guide in the architecture part of both poster and website. In the poster, the product picture is arranged in a display window with name of different parts labeled beside it, which helped us to illustrate the outer feature of the recorder. In the website, we used the engineering drawing to make a diagram, which can better present how Sony recorder can be linked with devices like outer microphones and PC.
